KUWAIT: The Ministry of Education (MoE) needs to appoint 550 new expatriate teachers for certain subjects due to a lack of Kuwaitis teaching these subjects, assistant undersecretary for administrative affairs Fahd Al-Ghaiss said. Meanwhile, MoE's assistant undersecretary for financial affairs Yousef Al-Najjar announced that expat teachers' October salaries would be paid in full including the KD 150 rent allowance because the ministry has not yet received any instructions from the Civil Services Commission on putting a decision to reduce the allowance to KD 60 in effect. "We will carry out the reduction as soon as we get the letter," he stressed.

Family court

Lawyer Howra Al-Habib yesterday contested the constitutionality of the family court law, noting that articles 5, 6, 7, 11, 13 and 14 of the law are unconstitutional.

TV improvement

The information ministry stressed its intention to launch several development projects including building an integrated center for editing all Kuwait TV and Kuwait Radio programs, at a total cost of KD 2.6 million. The ministry also announced that two new live coverage vehicles fully equipped with the latest technologies at a total cost of KD 4 million would arrive by January.

Camping season

As the spring camping season nears, head of the spring camps committee at Kuwait Fire Service Directorate (KFSD) Colonel Yousef Al-Sefak announced approving this year's safety and preventive measures. He added that in order to facilitate the process for campers, applicants pitching camps over a maximum area of 2,000 sq m would have to sign an online affidavit at the municipality's website without checking with KFSD, while those applying for camps of 5,000 plus sq m should get KFSD's approval. Sefak added that the safety conditions include having concealed electrical wiring, not using heat sources inside tents, not using wooden floors inside tents, to have a gap of at least five meters between tents, while kitchens should be at least 10 meters away from tents, not to burn garbage, keep the place clean, use non-thermal lighting systems and provide two four-kilo fire extinguishers per 1,000 sq m of the camp.
