A Kuwait Red Crescent Society delegation visits a 19-year-old Lebanese girl, who underwent a kidney transplant funded by the society.

KUWAIT: Last week
was marked with plentiful humanitarian works by Kuwaiti institutions and
humanitarian agencies to provide relief and assistance to those in need in the
region and around the world. Director General of the Kuwait Red Crescent
Society (KRCS) Dr Hilal Al-Sayer made sure the Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross
societies take on their responsibilities in providing assistance to those who
need it.

He was speaking
during a consultative session, grouping his peers from other Arab countries,
held in preparation for the forthcoming constitutional meeting of heads of
relief associations at the Organization of Arab Red Crescent and Red Cross
Societies. The meeting aims for a resolution to boost collaborated works and
efforts to serve humanitarian missions and strengthen cooperation between
relief and humanitarian association with authorities in other fields, in
addition to responding to the needs of migrants who have lost homes due to
natural or manmade causes.

KRCS had also
taken on another cause by providing financial assistance for a kidney
transplant for a 19-year-old Lebanese girl after her condition worsened. Dr
Sayer gave a statement during his visit of the girl at the hospital saying that
decision was made to cover expenses of her operation after observing dangers of
her condition that need an operation as soon as possible. The Kuwaiti society
has also been helping cover healthcare expenses for tens of Syrian refugees in
Lebanon, including children wallowing in chronic ailments, as the KRCS has
grown accustomed to helping out those less fortunate.

Training programs

In Aden, where
Kuwait's aid was also extended last week in the Shabwa and Aden provinces
through the works of the professional's qualification convoy project to
benefiting 175 people, financed by the Sheikh Abdullah Al-Noori and 'Kuwait by
Your Side' campaigns. This project provided five different training programs of
250 hours that benefitted 95 young men and women in Shabwa province qualify for
the working fields. An additional 80 individuals were also trained in a wide
variety of fields including fixing machines, air conditioning, computers,
mobiles, tablets and device maintenance.

Another project
was also launched in Aden to provide sowing training for 150 women for three
months to qualify them for work and also handing out sowing machines to all the
trainees, which is funded by the Kuwait Relief Society as part of Kuwait by you
side campaign. This project aims to provide women with an opportunity to work
and financial aid for their families in provinces mostly affected by negative
ramifications of the warfare.

In Irbil, North
Iraq, 10 buses were donated to Mosul University to ease transportation for
students-provided by Kuwait Relief Society under supervision of the Kuwaiti
Consulate in Mosul. The Consul General of Kuwait in Irbil Dr Omar Al-Kanderi
gave a statement saying 10 buses have been sent to the university in Mosul in
line with resolutions that had been taken during the Kuwait-hosted
international conference to rebuild Iraq.

Kuwait's aid to
the Syrian migrants extended to Turkey where three schools have been built in
Shanly Urfa to provide education needed for Syrian and Turkish students to
complete their education. One of the schools provides 20 classrooms for 550
students and 25 staff members, while the other two schools provide a spot for
1,150 students with 50 teachers and administrative staff.

1,000 food
baskets

In the Jordanian
capital Amman, 1,000 food baskets were handed out to families who are in need
with basic nutritional needs as part of a joint humanitarian campaign. And
after the Sudanese authorities announced casualties and damage caused by the
floods, Kuwaiti societies were there to provide aid to those affected by the
floods during the whole week with the arrival of three planes loaded with 110
tons of food and supplies. In a statement to the press, Ahmad Al-Sanousi, head
of the relief society in Sudan, said that humanitarian aid from funding to food
and supplies was provided for 500 families. - KUNA
