GENEVA: Kuwait’s participation in the International Labor Organization (ILO) conference is a testament to the country’s support of laborers, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor and Minister of State for Planning and Development Hind Al-Subaih said yesterday.

Kuwait will present to the ILO a chronicle of the country’s accomplishments in various fields germane to labor rights, Subaih noted. She also pointed to strenuous efforts exerted by Kuwait to stave off human trafficking and other forms of labor exploitation.

Meanwhile, Kuwait’s permanent envoy to the United Nations (UN) and International Organizations Ambassador Jamal Al-Ghunaim said that this year’s ILO conference will focus on a myriad of labor issues, including ways to cope with humanitarian crises and disasters. Ghunaim also revealed that the conference will tackle strategies to overcome rampant poverty in the world, noting that Kuwait is a prominent contributor to the ILO. The 2016 ILO Conference is slated to take place from today to June 10, with participation of representatives of 187 nations and international labor envoys, in addition to various civilian organizations. — KUNA
