KUWAIT: Kuwait University inaugurated this week Al-Shedadiya firefighting station at Sabah Al-Salem Campus city. The station is equipped with the latest mechanisms, laboratories, monitoring and control of leaks, in addition to security and safety devices.

In a statement on the sidelines of the opening ceremony, Deputy Chairman of Kuwait University Dr Fahad Al-Rashidi stressed the importance of having a firefighting station in the campus city that includes more than 43,000 students and 3,000 teaching staff, and located on an area of six million square meters.

He explained that although the university has a prevention department with the highest safety standards used in buildings and facilities, emergencies and accidents are possible, which confirms the need for the presence of a general fire force on campus to respond to any emergency event quickly.

Chief of the General Fire Brigade Lieutenant-General Khaled Al-Mekrad said the center is specialized in dealing with hazardous, gaseous and radioactive materials. "It is one of the leading specialized centers in the State of Kuwait and the region", he noted. – KUNA
