ABU DHABI: Kuwait’s Wheelchair team was honored on Sunday as champion in the concluding ceremony of the 8th GCC Wheelchair Basketball Championship, hosted in New York University’s Abu Dhabi, after defeating last night Saudi Arabia 62-56. The Kuwaiti team with eight points won the championship, followed by Bahrain with six points after beating UAE 52-47, while Oman took fifth place with four points. Kuwaiti player Yosif Ahmad Khalaf won best scorer in the tournament, and Bahraini Nabil Al-Dosari won best threepoint shooter award.

Kuwait’s embassy First Secretary Nasser Aba Al-Khail praised, in a statement to KUNA, Kuwaiti team performance and achievement for the eight consecutive time. For his part, Khalaf in a separate statement to KUNA, said that such achievement by the team comes as a result of cooperation and efforts exerted by the players, administrators, and trainers. Last night, following the win, Shafi Al-Hajri, president of Kuwait Disabled Sport Club, hailed Kuwaiti players’ performance throughout the championship. For his part, Ahmad Al-Shatti, the team’s assistant coach, lauded the Kuwaiti team for adherence by the directions and instructions made by the technical and administrative teams that contributed to wining the match. — KUNA
