KUWAIT: Kuwait was able to put a dent in the dominance of South East Asian countries in the Airgun competition by winning the bronze medal of the 10m air pistol for men following the end of the 4th day of competitions in the 8th Asian shotgun and 11th Airgun championships of Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Olympic Shooting Complex, as China continued its tight control of the gold medals.

The team of Ali Al-Mutairi, Saud Al-Ajmi and Hamad Al-Namshan had a score 1706 points, placing them third while China was first with 1731 points and Singapore silver with 1706 points.

The Chinese dominated the first three places in the individuals event, as world champion for 2018 and Asia juniors in 2017 Jiayu Wu won the gold medal with the score of 240.5 followed by Junzhi Huang with 238.9 points and Hao Zhang third with 219.1.

In the women's 10m Airpistol event Ranxin Jiang won the gold medal with a score of 243.3 while Singapore's Xiu Hong Teh won silver with 235.3 and China's Xue Li won bronze with 215.9.

In the women's teams China was first with 1723 points, while Taiwan took silver 1705 and Singapore took bronze with 1680.

In the juniors events in the 10m air pistol India's Chaudhary Saurabh won gold with a score of 239.8, Arjun Singh Cheema took silver with 237.7 and Taiwan's Wei-Te Huang won bronze with a score of 218 points. In the team event India was first, China second and Kazakhstan third.

In the 10m air pistol women junior Xiaoyu Wang was first with 238.9 points followed by China's Keyi Wang with 234.8 and Mei-Fang Yans from Taiwan was third with 216.5. In the teams event China was first, India second and Chinese Taipei third.

Kuwait Shooting Sport Club Secretary General, Tournament Director Obaid Al-Osaimi lauded Kuwait's team winning the bronze medal in the 10m pistol event following fierce competition from the rest of teams.

He said the credit goes for the Airgun department men at the club, and expected more achievements in the coming days.

Meanwhile, Deputy Technical Director of Airgun Department Abdallah Barakat said the 10m pistol team of Ali Al-Mutairi, Hamad Al-Namshan and Saad Al-Ajmi had a very good performance, and was satisfied with what took place so far specially elite squads from south east Asia are participating.
