KUWAIT: In an unprecedented judicial event, US has extradited a Kuwaiti who worked at the Kuwait Health Office in Washington. The suspect is accused of embezzlement and forgery. According to a judicial source, this is the first time an extradition request has been granted by a western country.

US and Kuwait have not signed any extradition treaty. Three government bodies (Prosecution, Interior Ministry and Foreign Ministry) worked continually for one year for this rare extradition. Washington agreed to handover the suspect to Kuwait because of Kuwait’s role as the center of humanitarian work and HH the Amir - the humanitarian leader. The source said that US has full confidence in Kuwait judiciary. The judicial source refused to divulge any details about the investigations. —Al Qabas
