KUWAIT: His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah reaffirmed Tuesday commitment to national unity as the "most powerful weapon" to confront various challenges. His Highness the Amir made the remarks at the opening of the Parliament's 5th regular complementary session of 15th legislative term. The government had approved a bill yesterday to hold parliamentary elections on December 5. His Highness the Amir also thanked speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanem and His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah for their relentless efforts during the "exceptional circumstances" caused by the coronavirus pandemic. His Highness the Amir said loyalty of Kuwaitis should always be for their nation, urging them to follow performance of their representatives at parliament in their "serious supervision, constructive legislation and full commitment to constitution."

His Highness the Amir, who paid tribute to the late Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for his service to his nation and people, said he would continue the path of the late Amir. He called for abiding by national unity as the "most powerful weapon" against all challenges, dangers and crises. "I would also like, Gods' willing, to reaffirm our commitment to our democracy, respect of the constitution, state of law and institutions and improve our parliamentary practice," he affirmed. "We would not say today we are in a parliamentary experiment but a deep-rooted practice which has been ongoing for around 60 years," he said. - KUNA
