KUWAIT: The visiting Director General of International Monetary Fund (IMF) Christine Lagarde yesterday lauded His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah for playing a great role at various levels, particularly in the humanitarian realm.

In statement to KUNA as she emerged from her meeting with His Highness the Amir, Lagarde said she was honored to meet him adding that the meeting was an opportunity to discuss a large number of economic and political issues. Lagarde added that she congratulated His Highness the Amir on his designation by the UN as the 'Humanitarian Leader,' also lauding his great role toward various humanitarian crises.

The State of Kuwait namely His Highness the Amir plays a vital role toward regional and global issues, she said, adding that her talks with His Highness the Amir dealt with economic conditions in Kuwait "for sake of overhauling the sector for service of financial stability." She added that the discussions also dealt with various political issues, where she conveyed her perspective regarding the global economy and hazards it faces.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Anas Al-Saleh, Advisor at Amiri Diwan Mohammad Daifallah Sharar and Central Bank of Kuwait (CBK) Governor Mohammad Al-Hashel.

Lagarde was also received by His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf  Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, who praised the IMF's role in supporting the concept of Islamic financing, wishing Lagarde a successful participation in the Global Islamic Finance Conference.
