KUWAIT: Chairman of Kuwait Fishermen Union Thaher Al-Sowayyan strongly denied rumors that local pomfret fish is being imported to other countries, adding that a ban is currently in effect on pomfret fishing. All local pomfret catches are sold in Kuwait, Sowayyan said, stressing that ever since its establishment, the union had been banning local fish exports. Commenting on a video circulating on social media about Kuwaiti pomfret being allegedly sold in the UAE, Sowayyan said that the annual pomfret fishing ban period is currently in place, which makes it impossible that the alleged video is true. "It might be Iranian pomfret that have been re-exported through Kuwait," he said in a statement yesterday, urging the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to investigate the matter.
