KUWAIT: Thirty five percent of diseases children below five develop result from malnutrition during the 1,000-day period starting with pregnancy, which affects children throughout their lives, Chairman of the Kuwait Society for Food and Nutrition Dr Ahmad Al-Haify stressed. His statement came on the sidelines of an event organized to announce plans to hold a scientific seminar on child health and nutrition on Feb 11 at Regency Hotel with the presence of a number of expert pediatricians and nutritionists from the Ministry of Health (MoH) and private hospitals and academics.

Haify added that according to the World Health Organization (WHO), the child rights' agreement says every infant and child has the right to get good nutrition, adding that sound nutrition means a safe life for children that will cut expenses of their future healthcare. Aside from Dr Haify, the seminar will include other speakers such as the newborn baby specialist Dr Mohammed Jalal Khallaf and pediatrics consultant Dr Fayez Hafez.
