KUWAIT: A man was arrested yesterday after attacking a traffic police officer following an accident in Ahmadi yesterday. Video footage showing a man in a dishdasha (traditional dress) assaulting a traffic policeman went viral on social media yesterday, prompting local authorities to launch an investigation into the matter. Investigations revealed that the police officer intervened to break up a fight between the suspect and an Asian national after the two were involved in a minor accident. The man ended up assaulting the officer before he was arrested. The man faces criminal charges after the motorist he assaulted provided a medical report showing that he suffered a broken nose as a result of the attack, while the officer also suffered bruises due to the assault, the Interior Ministry said in a statement.

Fatal accidents

A motorist was killed and another was injured when he became trapped inside a vehicle following a traffic accident on King Fahd Road yesterday morning. Firemen cut open the injured man's car and he was taken to hospital. Meanwhile, the other victim's body was recovered by the coroner. An investigation was opened  to determine the cause of the accident.

In another case, a citizen driving a sports utility vehicle (SUV) on Kabd Road collided with a quad bike driven by an Indian man. The citizen called medical emergency personnel, who rushed the victim to hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries. The case was sent to concerned authorities.

Theft

Farwaniya detectives arrested two citizens who stole a tablet computer from a restaurant, after patrons gave them their car's license plate number. The suspects confessed to the theft, saying they intended to steal money, but ended up with the iPad. Both were sent to concerned authorities.

New bridge

The Interior Ministry's traffic department said a bridge that links the extension of Jamal Abdul Nasser Road with Jaber Al-Ahmad City and Doha Spur will open today. Meanwhile, the ministry's relations and security information department said Jahra police station will be closed for three months from April 16 till July 16 for maintenance. It said complaints and reports will be received at Naeem police station.

Inspection

Kuwait Municipality's public relations department said inspection campaigns will begin at car sale and rental offices to make sure they are in compliance with areas mentioned in their licenses.
