KUWAIT: Mangroves trees were rehabilitated on the coastal road in Shuwaikh as part of a joint project run by the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR), and Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS). Mangroves trees, known for their ability to withstand high salinity, purify sea water, stabilize coastal soils, and form an ecosystem for coastal marine organisms, grew on Kuwait's shores during the 1940s, but became extinct because of logging. - KUNA
