KUWAIT: Kuwait’s First Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah held talks Sunday with the visiting US Secretary of Defense James Mattis on regional and international issues of mutual interest. The meeting, which took place at Bayan Palace, was attended by Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs and Acting Information Minister Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah Al-Sabah, a foreign ministry statement said.
The meeting was also attended by Assistant Foreign Minister for First Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Office Affairs Ambassador Sheikh Dr Ahmad Nasser Mohammad Al-Sabah, Assistant Foreign Minister for Ceremonials Ambassador Dhari Al-Ajran, Assistant Foreign Minister for Deputy Foreign Minister Office Affairs Ambassador Ayham Al-Omar and Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for for First Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Office Affairs Ambassador Saleh Al-Loghani and several Foreign Minister officials. Mattis arrived in Kuwait as part of a regional tour, which already taken him to Egypt and Jordan.
Meanwhile, Kuwait’s Deputy Premier and Defense Minister Sheikh Mohammad Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said that Mattis’ visit contribute to cementing military cooperation between Kuwait and Washington. Sheikh Mohammad and Mattis discussed military cooperation issues as well as a host of issues of mutual interest, according to a statement by the defense ministry. The meeting was attended by Chief of Staff of Kuwait Army Lt Gen Mohammad Al-Khodhr, Defense Undersecretary Sheikh Ahmad Mansour Al-Sabah, Deputy Chief of Staff Lt Gen Abdullah Nawwah Al-Sabah and US Ambassador to Kuwait Lawrence Sliverman. – KUNA
