LONDON: The current status quo and turmoil in the Middle East came as a result of instability in a number of states in the region, said Kuwait Ambassador to the UK Khaled Al-Duwaisan late Friday. The diplomat’s statement came during the opening session of the 52nd congress of the UK branch of the National Kuwait Student Union (NUKS) held under the auspices of His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al- Hamad Al-Sabah.

The increasing number of terrorist attacks, which recently struck Beirut, Paris, and Mali, is alarming, said the Ambassador noting that Kuwait was also subjected to an act of terrorism with the bombing that occurred at Imam Al-Sadeq Mosque back in June.

Despite that fact, the Kuwaiti leadership and people stood together to foil the terrorists’ plan to destabilize the country, said Duwaisan who added that terrorists failed to consider that even the Iraqi invasion in 1990 could not divide the Kuwaitis. Speaking about the students’ conference, Duaiwsan said that Kuwaiti students’ role was not only to gather knowledge while studying abroad. He stressed that students also make it their mission to connect with British society, building bridges of hope and cultural understanding. — KUNA
