local1KUWAIT: Minister of Electricity and Water and Minister of Public Works Engineer Ahmad Al-Jassar yesterday stressed the important role that the state's six governorates play in spreading awareness to rationalize electricity and water consumption, praising the cooperation of governors in this national initiative.

This came during a meeting between Minister Jassar with Hawally Governor Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and Governor of the capital Thabet Al-Muhanna in the presence of Undersecretary Mohammed Bushehri; who briefed them on all measures and procedures contained in the awareness campaign for rationalization.

A statement of the Ministry of Electricity and Water quoted Minister Jassar as saying that the campaign aims to raise awareness among community groups and the importance of maintaining the energy sources coinciding with the high temperatures and the increasing loads in order to make the best use of such resources.

He explained that the application of the rationalization mechanism starts from the government and investment sector and then private housing in collaboration with the governorates of the country through awareness brochures and organization of a contest in this regard covering all governorates under the title 'Save Your Money' aiming to encourage citizens to contribute to reducing energy use.

Initiative

Meanwhile, Governor Sheikh Ahmad Al-Nawaf spoke about an initiative that was launched by his Governorate dubbed 'Hawally is Different' which will include schools and mosques of Zahra area as a first stage in cooperation with the ministries of electricity, education and Islamic affairs.

He stressed the need to strengthen cooperation between the governorates and all government agencies concerned to reduce the electricity and water consumption, saying that this campaign is aimed at all segments of the Kuwaiti society.

Governor Thabet Al-Muhanna also stressed the importance that the government bodies start applying the concepts to rationalize consumption and then the civil and investment sectors. Muhanna said that there is cooperation with the competent authorities in the country to use solar power in some places to achieve a quantum leap in the diversification of energy sources, stressing the need to educate consumers about the importance of rationalization to reduce waste and energy depletion.

Unprecedented consumption

Meanwhile, Ahmadi Governor Sheikh Fawaz Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah affirmed yesterday the importance of tackling the country's electricity and water outages, in light of unprecedented consumption.

The governor, in collaboration with Head of Power and Water Preservation Committee Ali Al Aidi, underscored the significance of generating awareness on conserving water and electricity, citing ongoing initiatives to suppress rampant consumption.

Among those initiatives is a national strategy aimed at assessing the various electricity and water needs of different public institutions such as schools, mosques and cooperative societies, Aidi said. Numeric data concerning power and water consumption will be collected from these institutions, which would help gauge how much power and water is needed.

Moreover, the aim of such initiatives is to increase water and power capacities with priority given to mosques, schools, co-ops as well as residential buildings. The ultimate goal of these ongoing measures is to ensure the prosperity of Kuwait, Aidi added. - KUNA
