KUWAIT: The Ministry of Health has officially condoled the family of the late MP Falah Al-Sawwagh and stressed that an investigation into his death was underway.

Al- Sawwagh, a former opposition Islamist lawmaker, died unexpectedly following a recent surgery. Earlier reports indicated that the ex lawmaker’s condition deteriorated after a liposuction at the Babtain hospital for burns and plastic surgeries, and was later shifted to the intensive care unit where he died. He was 56.

Sawwagh was elected to the National Assembly for the first time in 2009 and was reelected in Feb 2012. But he boycotted as part of the opposition the following two polls in protest against the change in the voting system. Sawwagh previously worked for the Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC), amongst other institutions.
