DOHA: A Kuwait interior ministry bomb squad was praised on Monday for proving their efficiency and adaptability after taking part in drills at the Qatar World Cup. Maj Abdulrahman Al-Majed said the exercise, which involved some 20 members of the police force, gave them great experience in dealing with such a large gathering of individuals at a vital global event such as the World Cup.

The squad, which worked alongside fellow units from France, Spain, Turkey and host nation Qatar, exchanged security expertise with these countries, he explained. Their tasks included the inspection and securing of vital sites followed by a handover to competent authorities as well as responding to reports of explosives. The squad members were tasked with several locations, namely the Corniche area, Msheireb, several match-hosting venues, the FIFA fan festival zone and amongst security patrols. - KUNA
