KUWAIT: MP Faisal Al-Kundari yesterday proposed that the government should tax the overseas money transfers of expatriates working in the country.

Kundari proposed a 2 percent tax for transfers of up to KD 100, 4 percent for transfers of between KD 100 and 499 and five percent for transfers above KD500.

The lawmaker did not propose any similar taxes on transfers by citizens. MPs in the past made similar proposals to tax money transfers by expats to support the budget and reduce the amounts of money leaving the country.

Meanwhile, MP Youssef Al-Zalzalah yesterday praised the assembly legal and legislative committee for approving his proposal to amend the nationality law so to naturalize children of Kuwaiti women married to foreigners.

Under the amendment, children of Kuwaiti women from foreign spouses will be treated as Kuwaitis until they become adults and then given the Kuwaiti citizenship.
