MP Al-Humaidi Al-Subaie

KUWAIT: MP Al-Humaidi Al-Subaie criticized a decision made by Minister of Public Works Abdul-Rahman Al-Mutawa to offer 14 different road maintenance contract tenders simultaneously, noting that this action raises suspicions. The lawmaker demanded clarifications from the minister amid speculations that the operation was done as part of agreements made amongst various applying companies to split the tenders without any form of competition, in order to reduce the cost at the expense of public funds. Subaie said that has filed an inquiry on the matter.

Jleeb plots

Land plots in Jleeb Al-Shuyiukh will not be included in the 2017-2018 expropriation plans as no decisions have so far been made, said so far Fahad Al-Sholah, the Finance Ministry's assistant undersecretary for the affairs of the department of expropriation for public interest. The lands are being expropriated to be used in housing projects.

Deadlock

Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) cancelled plans to offer a tender for the first phase of the Jurassic gas terminals' project for public bidding after a deadlock with Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) concerning the $3.6 billion worth project. Sources said added that KOC will soon issue an official announcement about the project's cancellation. The reason behind the cancellation is not clear, but it is believed to be caused by a disagreement between the oil ministry and KPC, said the sources.

Salat Al-Istisqa

Following the tradition of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) when rainfall is late or during droughts, the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs decided to perform prayers for rain (Salat Al-Istisqa) in 47 mosques around Kuwait at 10:30 am on Saturday.
