KUWAIT: Farwaniya firemen freed people trapped in a vehicle following an accident on Sixth Ring Road near Ishbelia. A female citizen and her driver were rescued, and they suffered light injuries. Meanwhile, a truck ended up on top of a vehicle on King Fahd Road near Dhaher. The vehicle caught fire and a citizen was trapped in it. Mubarak Al-Kabeer firemen rescued him. He suffered burns on his feet and legs. The fire was put out and the vehicle was removed.

Mock drill

The civil defense carried out two mock exercises for evacuating the Children's Hospital in Sabah medical area and at a bank, with the participation of several security sectors from the interior ministry, fire department and medical emergencies. The exercises aim at gauging the readiness of participants to deal directly with emergencies.

Championship

Kuwait international and military airports organized the second championship for firemen, aiming to raise efficiency and physical fitness. Airport Fire Stations' Acting Director Lt Col Mohammad Al-Hajiri said each of the six stations sends a team consisting of a supervisor, vehicle operator and three firemen to compete in sports activities.

Spread of drugs

Director General of the Relations and Security Information Department at the Interior Ministry Brig Adel Al-Hashash said it is important to intensify awareness efforts against the spread of drugs amongst all society groups. He said that among the most important duties is to "immunize ourselves as uniformed personnel first, because we are at the forefront of security and the force that supports the society and ensures psychological and social security and safety among the country's citizens".

He said Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Sheikh Khalid Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah has the fight against drugs as a top priority and ministry undersecretary Lt Gen Mahmoud Al-Dossari is following it firsthand. Hashash, who participated in a campaign to fight drugs in schools, said the security establishment is carrying out an active role with the international community and all international, regional and Arab authorities to fight drugs and international crimes through a general policy to fight drugs by limiting the supply of such poisons and reducing demand for them. It has also fully adopted the Arab strategy to fight the illegal use of drugs and psychoactive substances.

He said there is coordination at the highest level between all concerned security establishments to fight drugs, be it the criminal security sector or the land and sea borders outlets, in addition to the customs general department, the health ministry represented by the drugs supervision center and the addiction center and the media to bring awareness of the harm of this scourge and publish the cases and legal punishments for drug smuggling, trading and use to deter society members.
