KUWAIT: Interior Ministry’s Assistant Undersecretary for Marine Borders Affairs Major General Zuhair Al- Nasrallah met with a delegation from Kuwait Fishermen Association, represented by Public Relations Director Jalal Al-Shimmari, Secretary General Hassan Al-Sagha and Director of Financial Affairs Hassan Al-Failakawi. Nasrallah said the new arrangements regarding entry and exit of Kuwaiti fishing boats out of Kuwait territorial waters through Um Al-Maradem Island were due to security requirements, and were taken after a comprehensive study.

He said Um Al-Maradem is the only island approved for documenting entry and exit of Kuwait fishing boats, adding that the process was ‘chaotic’ previously as ships used to exit from various places and go long distances out of Doha towards Kubbar Island, and the same goes for the return trip, all without getting exit permits. He said the new arrangements remove all loopholes, and fishermen get an official exit seal and ships will be searched on their return.
