KUWAIT: Firemen battle a blaze reported in Khaitan building

KUWAIT: A fire broke out in an eight-storey building in Khaitan. Farwaniya fire station men responded and asked for backup from Subhan and technical rescue stations. The building was evacuated and power was cut off. Nine injured people were treated on site by paramedics.

Teens rescued
Firemen from the Doha and technical rescue fire stations rescued five juveniles stuck in the mud off Doha. No injuries were reported. The operation was led by Lt Cols Khalid Karam and Mohammad Mubarak.

Fugitive arrested
A prisoner who escaped from Farwaniya Hospital was arrested. The fugitive was sentenced for 15 years in jail for causing a permanent disability and possession of a weapon.

Impersonation

The interior ministry's relations and security information department said detectives in Farwaniya arrested an Asian man for posing as a court mandoub. The suspect went to the police station and claimed to be a court mandoub in an attempt to hand Farwaniya police case papers. When asked for his ID, he attempted to escape by claiming to get the ID from the car. Officers were able to arrest and detain him.
