KUWAIT: Kuwait and the US have agreed to work together to ensure that the coronavirus pandemic does not negatively affect Kuwaitis studying in US colleges and universities, a Kuwaiti official said on Tuesday. Both countries discussed academic, educational and scientific cooperation amid the Fourth Kuwait-US Strategic Dialogue, currently being held between November 9-24, Kuwait's Assistant Foreign Minister for the Americas Hamad Al-Mashaan said.

They agreed to intensify the audiovisual talks, within the strategic dialogue mechanism, to overcome obstacles posed by the pandemic, read a statement by the Kuwaiti official's office. The talks saw the attendance of the Kuwaiti official alongside Kuwait's Ministry of Higher Education Undersecretary Sabeeh Al-Mukhaizeem and the US Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Marie Royce.

Officials from numerous Kuwaiti entities, including the Ministry of Education, Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences and the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research were also in attendance. Meanwhile, US Ambassador Alina Romanowski commended the round of talks as an opportunity to propose a number of initiatives aimed at assisting the educational and academic development of young Kuwaiti professionals. - KUNA
