ShareKUWAIT: Opposition representatives met at Ammar Al-Ajmi's diwaniya in Kaifan without the attendance of former MPs Ahmed Al-Saadoun and Khaled Al-Sultan, well-informed sources said. The sources explained that 11 former MPs including Mohammad Al-Dallal, Badr Al-Dahoum, Jamaan Al-Harbash, Waleed Al-Tabtabaei, Hamad Al-Mutar, Osama Al-Menawer, Adel Al-Damkhi, Osama Al-Shaheen, Mohammad Hayef, Nayef Al-Merdas and Ajmi attended the meeting and discussed taking part in the upcoming parliamentary elections.
The sources quoted Harbash urging his colleagues to be realistic and note that people have been avoiding their seminars and rejecting their calls to go to Irada Square. "My brothers and myself have been affected very much by the boycott," he said, pointing out that he had received a call from former MP Musallam Al-Barrak urging them to take part in the elections, because having opposition MPs in parliament would be a golden opportunity for Barrak to run in the following elections that will be held when the opposition wins seats and manages to create a crisis in the new parliament and have it dissolved.
The sources added that a discussion was held about how to take part in the elections and that it was agreed to run in the elections provided that Barrak issues a written statement urging the opposition to do so. "Harbash called Barrak and he promised to make the statement," said the sources, adding that former MP Faisal Al-Mislem said that he was embarrassed to declare his intentions to take part because he had just urged people to boycott the elections two days earlier. "Let me be the last to announce my participation," the sources claimed he said, as if yielding to public pressure.
The meeting's host and former MP Ajmi said that the opposition MPs who attended the meeting decided to take part in the elections except for Tabtabaei, who decided to consult his voters, and Merdas, who has not made up his mind yet. Ajmi added that six of the majority bloc members, including Saadoun, Sultan, Abdullatif Al-Ameeri, Mohammed Al-Kandari, Faisal Al-Yahya and Obaid Al-Wasmi, will not take part in the upcoming elections. Ajmi added that another meeting would be held at his diwaniya tomorrow. In addition, Ajmi noted that the Islamic Constitutional Movement (ICM) general assembly had selected Harbash to take part.
