Kuwait Cabinet holds its weekly meeting

KUWAIT: The Council of Ministers held its weekly meeting on Monday at Bayan Palace, chaired by the Prime Minister, HH Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. After the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, and Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs, Essa Ahmad Al-Kandari, stated the following: The Council of Ministers was assured of the state of health of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. They prayed for His Highness the Amir’s good health and speedy recovery.

Foreign Minister Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah briefed the Cabinet on the results of his participation as a representative of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah at the meeting of the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council at its 44th session, which was held in Doha last Tuesday, with the participation of the president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as a special guest. He said that many issues were discussed concerning the Joint Gulf action in various fields and at all levels in addition to regional and international issues, foremost of which are the developments in Gaza and the ongoing violations on the Palestinian territories and the holy sites.

The Foreign Minister also briefed the Cabinet on the final statement issued by the 44th Session of the Supreme Council on several issues, including the confirmation that the Durra field is located entirely in the maritime areas of Kuwait and that the ownership of natural resources in the submerged area adjacent to the Saudi-Kuwaiti divided zone, including the entire Durra field, is a joint property between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait only, and they alone have full rights to exploit the wealth in accordance with the provisions of international law and on the basis of the agreements.

The final statement of the 44th Session of the Supreme Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States stressed the importance of Iraq’s respect for the sovereignty of Kuwait and its territorial integrity and commitment to bilateral and international commitments and agreements and all relevant United Nations resolutions, especially Security Council Resolution No. 833/1993 on the demarcation of the Kuwaiti-Iraqi land and maritime borders, calling on Iraq to work hard to complete the demarcation of the maritime border between the two countries.

The Cabinet also discussed the affairs of the National Assembly and reviewed the topics on the agenda of the two sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday. On the other hand, the Cabinet expressed deep regret for using the veto right in the UN Security Council against a draft resolution calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The Cabinet also expressed deep concern over the failure of the UN Security Council to respond to the warning of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres by referring to Article 99 of the UN Charter. — KUNA
