PARIS: Representative of HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, yesterday reaffirmed support to France in the fight against terrorism. "Kuwait supports the efforts of France and the international community in fighting terrorism which has become a threat to the stability and security of many world countries," Sheikh Jaber said in a statement shortly after arriving in Paris to participate in the UN conference on climate change.

The prime minister called for collaboration of world countries to confront terrorism, which was rejected by all faiths. He expressed condolences to France and the French people following the Nov 13 attacks in Paris that killed 130 people and injured over 350 others. Sheikh Jaber praised France's "courageous" decision to host the climate summit despite the "terrorist crimes in the French capital".

He said Kuwait was keen on participating in the climate summit, which was very significant due to the rapid climate changes over the past two decades. Kuwait, he said, has been an active partner in previous summits which were aimed at addressing global warming, and was amongst the leading countries that approved the UN framework agreement on climate change. He hoped the Paris climate summit would mark a "serious start" that would prevent "disastrous" consequences on the environment and economy.

Sheikh Jaber called for narrowing gaps between industrial and developing countries, as well as increasing funding to tackle climate change. Kuwait has exerted huge efforts to eliminate pollution and preserve the environment, he said. - KUNA
