KUWAIT: Detectives are investigating a video in which a woman orders her children to beat an Asian maid, ignoring her pleas and cries. A clip that went viral on social media shows the woman asking the domestic helper to close the door so that the shoes can hit the target, Al-Rai reported yesterday. The video received a barrage of criticism from citizens and expats, who sympathized with the helper.

Drug possession

Highway traffic police stopped a car that was moving from one lane to another in a suspicious manner. Police found the driver is a 32-year-old Kuwaiti, who was not able to control the car. Police searched him a person on the passenger's seat; a 31-year-old Kuwaiti. They found a suspicious substance with them. The driver also attempted to escape and fiercely resisted police.

Electronic passport

The Interior Ministry's Assistant Undersecretary for Nationality and Passports Maj Gen Sheikh Mazen Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah said citizens who need an electronic passport can access the ministry's website at www.moi.gov.kw and apply for an appointment to obtain the passport, as well as details of the place, date and time of the appointment. He said the website was upgraded to reduce crowds and make things easier for applicants.

Salmiya fire

Salmiya and Bidaa fire stations battled a blaze in a women's tailoring shop in the basement of a Salmiya building. Firemen evacuated the building and prevented the fire from spreading before putting it out.
