KUWAIT: A police officer died in an accident reported at Abdali Road yesterday. Sergeant Major Meshari Al-Enezi, 22, from the Jahra police department was pronounced dead on the scene before his body was taken to the forensic department. Paramedics, police and firefighters had rushed to the scene; located at the 15th kilometer mark of the road, shortly after the accident was reported. The officer had succumbed to his injuries and died before their arrival, according to the police report. An investigation was opened to determine the circumstances which led to the accident.

Work mishap

The collapse of a sand barrier and lack of safety procedures led to the death of an Egyptian worker at the site of a building under construction in Funaitees. Mubarak Al-Kabeer fire center responded to a call about a trapped worker, but when the man was taken out by firemen, he was pronounced dead by paramedics. The coroner recovered the body.

Environmental crime

Environment police carried out a campaign on violating camps, resulting in the arrest of two Egyptian men for cutting down trees in the Subbiya open area. They were sent to concerned authorities for further action.

Financial commitments

The Stock Market Committee asked the Stock Market Authority to transfer KD 3.3 million to the Kuwait Stock Exchange's (KSE) account to cover commitments for the next two months.

NGOs' closure

A memo from the Cabinet to the Social Affairs and Labor Ministry said that the percentage of the closure of violating nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) is 30 percent now, and demanded that 70 percent be closed before the end of the year. The memo said the Cabinet had views on the mechanisms organizing licensing and opening some branches of NGOs, such as proposing several areas where branches can be opened including social development centers, family care, co-ops, hospitals and health centers, like the case with patient aid fund in Sabah health area.

Curricula development

Education Minister Dr Bader Al-Essa issued a decision to form the constitution, human rights and democracy curricula development committee and prepare a mechanism to teach them in the three educational stages. Essa appointed Dr Siham Abdelwahab Al-Furaih from the Kuwait International College of Law as chairperson.
