Power cable thieves arrested in Jahra

KUWAIT: Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) personnel apprehended a number of people on charges of stealing power cables in Jahra. The detainees were taken to the proper authorities for further legal procedures. MEW has last year established a division where personnel are given legal authority to investigate cases pertaining with power cable thefts and arrest suspects involved in such cases.

The cables are stolen for the copper they contain which thieves sell as junk metal. The division was established in response to the growing number of such thefts which has resulted in power cuts at various locations around the country. In other news, traffic police statistics about accidents over the weekend showed that over 10 people were injured in 23 different traffic accidents.
