KUWAIT: Ministry of Electricity and Water workers cut power off of 18 buildings in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh for housing bachelors in violation of the law, a Kuwait Municipality official said yesterday. The process took place following due process and as part of government efforts to evict single men from areas allocated for families' residence, said Mohammad Sarkhouh, Farwaniya Governorate Branch Director at Kuwait Municipality.

Meanwhile, a campaign carried out in the area by a team consisting of members from various state departments resulted in removing 36 truckloads of garbage and 15 truckloads of used tires, in addition to six truckloads of scrap metal and four truckloads of fruits and vegetables. Furthermore, municipality officers closed down 12 stores including a supermarket covering an area of 700 square meters, and issued 13 warnings to building owners for to construction-related violations. In the meantime, Public Authority for Manpower workers issued seven citations to violating laborers who were arrested and sent for deportation, Sarkhouh said.

Interior Ministry Undersecretary Lt Gen Essam Al-Nahham had inspected the work of the committee following up the situation in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh on Thursday. He was accompanied by Deputy Director General for Farwaniya and Mubarak Al-Kabeer Affairs Ammar Al-Ammar, Director General of Farwaniya Governorate Security Maj Gen Abdullah Al-Ali, Director of Farwaniya Municipality Mohammad Sarkhouh and Director of the Cleanliness Department Saad, in addition to representatives of participating departments. Naham commended the efforts of the committee and said the interior ministry will continue its support of the committee until the "civilized image" of the area is restored.

Separately, Head of the spring camps committee at Kuwait Municipality, Deputy Director General for Hawally and Ahmadi Governorates Affairs Fahad Al-Shitaili demanded impounding all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) in open areas that lack the necessary safety requirements, and that in order to avoid human injuries.

In other news, the Ministry of Social Affairs assistant undersecretary for social development Hana Al-Hajery said the ministry is still suspending any application to pay diya (blood money) until special regulations are set to organize diya fundraising for cases inside Kuwait only.
