KUIWAIT: The Public Prosecution is expected to summon MP Abdulhameed Dashti next week for questioning on charges of slandering Saudi Arabia after his parliamentary immunity was lifted. In case Dashti does not show up for investigation, the case is expected to be referred to the criminal court. Meanwhile, the justice ministry sent Dashti a letter requesting that he attends the legislative committee's meeting next Sunday to be formally notified of the two-year prison sentence issued against him by a Bahraini court in absentia.

National unity

The Criminal Court adjourned prosecuting the Islamic Alliance's Secretary General Hussein Al-Maatouq until June 1st, 2016, pending a Constitutional Court's ruling about the national unity law. Notably, Maatouq was prosecuted by the State Security Department over a speech he made defending the suspects arrested in the Abdaly cell case.

Promotion

The Administrative Court yesterday ordered that a military man who was accused in the National Assembly's storming case as entitled for promotion after he was acquitted. Separately, the Court of Appeal yesterday acquitted an Egyptian man who was sentenced to capital punishment for drug trafficking.

Renaming areas

Municipal Council members Hassan Kamal and Abdullah Al-Kandari proposed changing the names of Abo Feteera and Mahboula areas after consulting Kuwait University (KU) and the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL).
