KUWAIT: Kuwait's Ministry of Education (MoE) announced yesterday the start of the competition for the UNESCO King Hamad Bin Isa Al-Khalifa Prize for the Use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in Education, at its 12th session in the year 2020, aimed at individuals, institutions and organizations worldwide. The theme of the 2020 edition is the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance the continuity and quality of learning, as the deadline for submitting is next December 18th, the ministry said in a press statement.

The MoE's Acting Undersecretary Faisal Al-Maqasid issued a circular to all sectors of the ministry, central departments, its affiliates, along with public administrations in educational areas and schools regarding registration, they pointed out. They underscored the importance of this international award for its effective role in rewarding initiatives aimed at spreading quality learning for all types of learners through the use of ICT, to bring it into line with UNESCO's objectives for online education.

At this year's edition, the award highlights the AI's role in enhancing the continuity and quality of learning for all, especially considering the exceptional circumstances imposed by COVID-19, which led to the reliance on online education using modern technologies. UNESCO invited individuals, institutions and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to go to the National Commission of the UNESCO Member State or an NGO in official partnership with UNESCO, to inquire about any information and fill out the online form. - KUNA
