KUWAIT: Head of the International Women's Empowerment and Capability Building Organization Ebtisam Al-Quood announced the organization of the 40th edition of an international conference titled 'The rights of children between protection and care (safe childhood)' under the sponsorship of Social Affairs Minister Mai Al-Baghli from Dec 12 to 14.

"This conference comes within exceptional circumstances after the COVID pandemic, which presented a number of challenges and obstacles in empowering childhood. This necessitates that we shed light on the most important of these obstacles from social, legal, medical, psychological and family perspectives," said Quood, pointing that the early years of children's lives are central to their growth to discover their potentials, as they need special care and attention during this period.

"We must rate programs in the public and private sectors to how much child protection is applied. Therefore, the conference kicks off in cooperation with the Kuwaiti society for social services and the supreme council for family affairs, regional network for social responsibility under the GCC, the national child protection society, and family development administration, among others," she added.

Member of the organization and head of the scientific committee Salwa Al-Jassar said: "This important conference gives the opportunity for Arab countries to start initiatives towards caring about childhood, as the first years of a child's life are considered a thriving opportunity for human investment by providing all the possibilities to ensure the rights and protection of children are present."

"The most recent calamities caused children to go through humanitarian, social, medical and psychological problems. Therefore, we must cooperate to instill children's rights and protect them from some policies, while focusing on ensuring that all children can obtain basic rights and services," she added.

"The conference hosts many experts and specialists to discuss the subjects included and present the best expertise in the field of child protection and rights," Jassar said, adding the conference includes four main meetings and 18 workshops. She invited everyone to attend on weekdays from 9:30 am to 3:00 pm at the National Library.
