KUWAIT: National Assembly Speaker and President of the Arab Parliament (AP) Marzouq Al- Ghanim called here yesterday for an emergency AP meeting on October 17 in Geneva to discuss Israeli aggressions against Palestinians.

The emergency meeting, which is to be held on the sidelines of 133th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), will also consider necessary action to end Israeli attacks on Palestinians. Ali Al- Ghanim met yesterday with visiting Secretary General of the Inter- Parliamentary Union (IPU) Martin Chungong.

The meeting dealt with ways to enhance cooperation and vital issues to be discussed by the 133rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union due in Geneva between October 17-21. The meeting was attended by a number of Kuwaiti MPs. Meanwhile, Al-Ghanim met with visiting Deputy Chairman of the Arab Parliament Samiya Ahmed. During the meeting, they discussed cooperation and a number of common issues. The meeting was attended by Kuwaiti and Arab MP Faisal Al-Kandari.

Nobel prize

Al-Ghanim said yesterday that the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet was really worthy of winning the 2015 Nobel peace prize. Al-Ghanim in a cable sent to Tunisian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Al-Nasser said that the Tunisian National Dialogue Quartet’s efforts over years reflected the aspirations of the Tunisian people towards peace and democracy.

The speaker hailed Tunisia as a model of the Arab Spring for maintaining security and stability and safeguarding its people’s dignity away from infighting, armed conflicts and chaos. The Speaker sent yesterday a cable of condolences to the Speaker of the UAE Federal National Council in which he expressed his sorrow on the martyrdom of a UAE soldier in Yemen while on duty within the framework of the Saudi-led coalition forces. —KUNA
