KUWAIT: Chairman of the Kuwait Union for Consumer Cooperative Societies (KUCCS) Ali Al-Kandari yesterday said the union issued a directive to all co-ops ordering the suspension of any cigarette and tobacco price increases. Kandari added that some supplying companies have been taking advantage of the fact that cigarette prices are not set by the union. He also noted that the union received a letter from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) banning any unjustified price increases without legal proof of any cost price increases. Kandari also stressed that prices are unified in co-ops. Notably, MoCI had issued a letter urging the union to stop the recent unjustified cigarette price increases.
