KUWAIT: Designated Ambassador of Austria to Kuwait Ulrich Frank said his country is on the side of international law and the protection of innocent civilians in Gaza and Lebanon. “Also, hostages are irrevocable. We need de-escalation on every front and must do everything in our power to end the humanitarian catastrophe taking place now. This requires an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon and all possible fronts to allow for humanitarian aid and to finally free the hostages, including an Austrian citizen. Only a two-state solution can pave the way.”

The remarks came at a reception held by the Austrian Embassy on Sunday to mark Austrian National Day, which falls on October 26. “Austria has provided 37 million euros in humanitarian aid for civilians in Gaza and the region since October 7, 2023. A peaceful coexistence requires tolerance, compromise, and the recognition that both sides have valid perspectives.” Frank pointed out that 170 Austrian soldiers serve in the UNIFIL in Lebanon.

He emphasized Austria’s permanent neutrality, a principle that keeps it “free from military alliances and foreign troop presence.” “Yet, neutrality does not mean we are ideologically neutral; we are committed to democracy, human rights, and pluralism,” he said.

Frank highlighted Austria’s role in the global community, noting that Austria is committed to multilateralism and the rule of law. “Alongside Kuwait, we advocate for a reformed and more effective UN Security Council, which reflects today’s world and not just the post-World War II order.” Regarding Kuwait-Austria relations, Designated Ambassador Frank commended the strong ties between the two countries, stating “I am confident that the nearly 60-year tradition of fruitful diplomatic relations benefit both Kuwait and Austria.”
