KUWAIT: Ahmadi detectives are searching for the driver of a luxury car who collided with a car driven by a Syrian, killing his wife and injuring seven of their children, three of whom are in critical condition. The man said his car flipped over when a car hit him from behind, and gave details of the luxury car. The injured were medevacked to Adan Hospital.

Drugs statistics

The Drugs Control General Department and Criminal Detectives Department last year confiscated 11.730 kg of 'chemical' (synthetic marijuana with added chemicals), 21.070 kg of marijuana, 7.928 kg of shabu (methamphetamine), 321.929 kg of hashish , 4.949 kg of heroin, 400 grams cocaine and 2,042,208 psychoactive tablets. The large amounts of drugs confiscated in 2017 reflects the Interior Ministry's keenness on fighting drugs and protecting youth from its dangers, Assistant Undersecretary for Criminal Security Affairs Maj Gen Khalid Al-Dayeen said in a statement yesterday.

Deaths reported

A security source said a call was received about a dead man in his apartment, so police and paramedics went to the scene and found several injuries on the victim's face and body. The prosecutor decided to record it as a homicide. Forensics officers collected the body and sent it to the coroner. Meanwhile, police received a call from a Fahaheel hotel about a dead citizen in his room. Employees said they knocked the door several times but there was no response, so they opened the door and discovered the body. The death was also recorded as a homicide. Separately, the body of an Egyptian engineer who worked for the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) was recovered by the coroner after he was found dead in his room. The body had signs of beating and a broken nose, and the case was also registered as a homicide. A relative of the man told detectives that he attempted to call him but did not get an answer, so he went to his apartment, but there was no response. He opened the door with a copy of the key and discovered he was dead.

Fatal accident

An Egyptian man succumbed to his injuries at Mubarak Hospital after he was involved in an accident in Salmiya. A car hit the man while he was crossing the road. The driver, Kuwaiti, then swerved and hit another car. The victim was rushed to hospital and the driver was taken to the police station.

Thief caught

Farwaniya detectives arrested an Egyptian pickpocket who stole KD 500 from a Turkish man in a crowded store. A security source said cameras helped detectives identify the thief through his car's license plate number, as he was followed till his car. The suspect confessed to committing the crime, adding this was not the first time he had stolen.

Drunks fight

Ahmadi police arrested five Asians fighting while under the influence of alcohol in a Mahboula apartment. The Egyptian haris of the building called police about the fight, so they went there and arrested them. One of the men was taken to Adan Hospital for treatment for a deep wound in his arm. Legal action is being taken prior to their deportation.

Municipality crackdown

Kuwait Municipality's public relations department said a campaign was carried out in West Abdullah Mubarak by the Farwaniya Municipality branch. Director of Cleanliness and Road Occupancy Department at Farwaniya Saad Al-Khrainej said the campaign resulted in issuing 11 citations to roaming vendors and removal of three makeshift cabins where construction material and foodstuff were sold without a license, two tents, three electric generators and a water pump.
