KUWAIT: Zain, the leading digital service provider in Kuwait, announced its sponsorship of a virtual lecture hosted by Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) in partnership with Sheikh Abdullah Al Salem Cultural Centre (ASCC). The event, held on Instagram Live, featured Aisha Bowe, a former engineer at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and focused on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields.

The first Spheres of Knowledge episode, moderated by Sheikh Abdullah Al Salem Cultural Centre, and joined by former NASA engineer Aisha Bowe, centered on the topic of "NASA, Entrepreneurship and the Importance of STEM Education". During this discussion, Bowe shared with the viewers her personal experiences at NASA, addressed the challenges that come with diversifying Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields, and discussed how she started her own STEM-related business.

Bowe also provided valuable and actionable tips and advice for women looking to enter or advance in the field of engineering and technology. This was then concluded with a lively Q&A session. Her participation was facilitated in coordination with the US Embassy in Kuwait.

Commenting on Zain's sponsorship, Waleed Al-Khashti, Zain Kuwait's Chief Corporate Communications and Relations Officer said: "Our main goal in supporting this initiative is to inspire the younger generation to look beyond was is traditionally available to them in terms of academics and career prospects. We hope for them to pass by the challenges that come along their education and career journeys, and follow a path that speaks to them and achieve what is fulfilling to them personally - as that is the true motivator for success."

Dr Albaraa Altourah, Assistant Professor of Mass Communications and Chair of the Global Studies Centre at GUST, said, "The Spheres of Knowledge collaboration with the prestigious Sheikh Abdullah Al Salem Cultural Centre highlights our joint mission as educational institutions that strives to enlighten and expose the public and our students to topics they would not normally come into contact with, and therefore to stimulate their minds to ignite a spark for knowledge that would otherwise go undisturbed."

Since its launch, Sheikh Abdullah Al Salem Cultural Centre has strived to elevate the role and standing of science in Kuwait. As an institution with a vested interest in the cultivation of young minds, this collaboration with GUST blossomed as a natural progression to move closer to its goal.

The Spheres of Knowledge event continues the university's tradition of bringing together experts, scholars, and industry professionals from a variety of fields to its campus through the many academic centers it hosts, such as the Centre for Teaching Learning and Research (CTLR), and the Global Studies Centre. Zain's sponsorship to this initiative comes under its comprehensive strategy to support sustainability, entrepreneurship, and innovation. The discussion was hosted on GUST's Instagram account, and can be watched in its entirety on its IGTV tab (instagram.com/gust_official).
